13.06.08 Where is your home? |
How would you answer this question? Would you name your permanent residence? Xy Avenue in who knows which city?
Since I am living in Peru as a missionary, I don’t find an easy answer to that question anymore. Yet this question may be asked even more often to myself or other missionaries than to others – usually when I am coming to Germany for a “home leave” or when I am about to return to Peru. My personal report in one Globe News magazine ends saying: My flight to Peru leaves Germany Jun 12th – going from one home to the other… |

07.05.08 On Being a Good Samaritan |
While growing up, one of my favorite stories was the tale of the “Good Samaritan”. Those who ought to have helped the man, who was beaten and robbed, didn’t, and the man’s natural enemy came to his aid! Injustice seemingly had the upper hand until it was triumphed by the merciful act of an unknown stranger. The story took on a greater meaning for me one day while I was traveling down a British motorway and a Jaguar, sped irresponsibly past me. Suddenly, a loud sound exploded as a tire blew, the car swerved, then rolled and threw the driver out of the front window to land unconscious in the middle of the road right in front of me. I quickly pulled aside, waved the traffic away from the man, had my passengers put out signs and sent another driver to get the police and ambulance. We covered the bleeding man with our coats, prayed for him and waited by his side until professional help arrived and took over. I remember looking at the annoyed expressions of the inconvenienced drivers passing by, curiously examining the accident, but definitely not wanting to get involved. I guess they reminded me of the passers by in the parable. |

„Hi... I’m feeling miserable right now and only want to write a few words. Last night I had a dreadful ending of a wonderful day and I went to sleep crying. That is why I’m so wiped out today… I just had my camera adjusted… then all of a sudden ALL my photos and videos were deleted. No files left on the camera… I cried so hard and was really desolate and the feeling is still there. More than 150 pictures… that perhaps I cannot recapture… that’s I want you to know.” |

I am dying, dying for you
! |
-screams the Spanish tearjerker in my radio, while I am sitting in my kitchen waiting for the Peruvian news. In the next song the singer sighs: “You betrayed me with another woman, but I will never forget you, but love you forever…..” and her follower in the radio complains in a similar way that her lover cannot do without alcohol, but she cannot get away from him as well. I take an hour that morning to listen to the music program of the common local station and wonder one more time: What is going on?! |
