Keys for indigenous church planting
 Within just a few months of deciding to follow Jesus I found myself on the foreign mission field with Youth With A Mission in Scotland. I remember having my first spiritual birthday at our base on the Isle of Cumbrae in an old monastery. As a new disciple of Christ I bought-into the idea that we were meant to be on mission. That was 33 years ago and I still believe that. Since then, I have been involved in planting three churches in Scotland and Spain - all have become self-governing, financially independent and have sent quite a few missionaries out to other countries themselves.

Missions and how they kill a local church!

  1. Missions destroy any concept we have of how important we are and replace it with a picture of the WHOLE world.
  2. Missions take money, time, people and effort away from administration and church politics and build churches elsewhere when we all know the greatest need is for the heathens that never come visit our Church to be saved
  3. Missions look for what works not what is the latest theory. This is so annoying when you try to get everyone to do the NEW thing
  4. Missions are a real pain in the side of a Church always expecting people to be born again, filled with the spirit and reaching NEW people instead of just keeping the old ones happy
