In the middle of the 80th Rick and Cheri Thompson moved with their three children to Africa. Rick started as a teacher at Mannah Bible school in Nairobi/Kenya and took over as a director later on. Cheri was a teacher at the international school in Nairobi and taught at the Bible school in between.
In 1993 she and a friend started the ministry among street kids in Nairobi. During the time the weekly meetings developed into a day care centre for street kids and their families. The main goal is for the kids to discover the love of God and to learn to share the gospel about Jesus, as well as the reintegration into the community.
After the program was successfully handed over to skilled Kenyans, the Thompson started a new ministry in Kitale / west of Kenya. In May 2001 Rick died of cancer. Cheri decided to continue the vision of her husband. Because of that she is not only a single mother to Rachel and Alex but also leader of the Challenge Ministry in Nairobi and Kitale. |
